Schokofarht

World’s largest bicycle transport delivers chocolate emission-free from Amsterdam to all of Germany

Chocolatemakers takes a radically different view on impact and makes the impossible possible. A large part of their cocoa beans comes from the Dominican Republic, transported entirely by wind power on the sailing ship Tres Hombres to Amsterdam. There, the beans are turned into delicious chocolate, which is then delivered completely emission-free to Germany by enthusiastic German cargo cyclists: the Schokofahrt – the largest bicycle transport in the world! From Berlin to Mannheim, cyclists come to Amsterdam to collect about 14,000 organic chocolate bars.

The cocoa used for the Tres Hombres bar arrives in Amsterdam once a year on the sailing ship Tres Hombres. In 2016, a few cycling enthusiasts in Germany were inspired by the story of Chocolatemakers and the Tres Hombres, which within just a few years grew into a large movement. Since then, the Schokofahrt has taken place twice a year (in April and October) to transport the Tres Hombres bars from Amsterdam to Germany and place them on store shelves completely emission-free.
